PyroUSB or PyroMiniUSB – which sensor is best suited for my application?
The PyroUSB is a compact infra-red temperature sensor with a 2-wire, 4 to 20mA output. It has a USB port at the back which, when connected via the supplied cable to a PC running free Calex software, permits full configuration plus temperature visualisation, data acquisition and on-screen alarm setting. Pre configuration does not require the sensor to be separately powered so it can be carried out before installation simply by connecting it to a PC. Parameters that can be altered include the temperature range, emissivity setting, signal filtering and peak/valley hold. The PyroUSB is also available in two versions: one for non-reflective non-metals or painted metal surfaces and another for steel surfaces. Depending on which model is selected it can measure temperatures from -40°C to 2000°C.
The USB interface on the PyroUSB proved so popular, particularly among laboratories, test houses and Universities (who have no need for a separate 4 to 20 mA output) that Calex was asked to build a sensor with a USB connection only. The resulting PyroMinUSB is smaller and costs less than its big brother but is still built to the same industrial standards so it can be used in OEM applications if needed. It measures temperatures from -20°C to 1000°C.
Both sensors meet the demanding EMC requirements for Electrical Equipment for Measurement, Control and Laboratory Use.
