Calex Intrinsically Safe Infrared Temperature Sensors
The ExTemp non-contact infra-red temperature sensor is designed to operate safely in hazardous areas, where there is a risk of explosion due to flammable vapours or dusts. It is certified “Intrinsically Safe” so there is no need for a bulky flameproof enclosure.
The ExTemp is suitable for hazardous areas, Zone 0, 1 and 2 (gas), and Zone 20, 21 and 22 (dust), with a suitable Intrinsically Safe interface. It can measure temperatures from -20°C to 1000°C and provides a two wire 4-20 mA output. The output can be rescaled and the emissivity setting adjusted via optional USB and RS-485 adapters. The housing is made of stainless steel 316, which is ideal for offshore applications.
For further information and technical advice please refer to the ExTemp Guide to Certification and Installation (Application Guide)
For those applications where the ambient temperature can be higher than 70°C (up to a maximum of 180°C) then the two-part ExTempMini provides an effective Intrinsically Safe solution.
The ExTempMini sensing head can withstand up to180°C and is suitable for hazardous areas, Zone 0, 1 and 2 (gas) but not flammable dusts. The main enclosure can withstand up to 70°C and may be installed in a Zone 1 or 2 hazardous area (gas).
