PyroMini or PyroMini OEM – which sensor is best suited for my application?

The PyroMini infra-red temperature sensor is designed to meet the demand for a sensor that can withstand high ambient temperatures without any additional cooling. The key to meeting this demand is the separation of the temperature sensitive electronic components in the amplifier from the temperature resistant components in the sensor.

The sensor, now containing fewer parts, is much smaller than before and can withstand ambient temperatures of 120°C or 180°C without cooling. It comes with a choice of optics, including narrow options for long-distance measurements of very hot objects.

The amplifier provides adjustable emissivity setting as standard and a wide range of options depending on its intended use. These include 4 to 20 mA or RS485 Modbus outputs, a touch screen for temperature display and configuration, data logging to a MicroSD Card and alarm relay outputs.

General-purpose models have a spectral response 8-14 µm making them suitable for a wide range of target materials such as paper, plastics, food, painted surfaces, coated metal and many more, whereas short wavelength models have a spectral response of 2.2 µm for improved accuracy on reflective targets such as steel rollers and many other metal surfaces.

The PyroMini OEM infra-red temperature sensor provides many of the features of the PyroMini but is focused on the needs of OEMs and machine builders. To this end, the PyroMini OEM retains the high ambient temperature capability of the sensor but does away with adjustable emissivity, a user interface, digital communications, data logging and signal processing.

The sensor is fitted with a right-angled cable entry to reduce the overall length and make it easier to install in tight spaces.

The amplifier is mounted in a low-cost, extruded aluminium enclosure, suitable for mounting inside machinery, but still offers a choice of outputs: 4-20 mA, 0-10 V DC, Type J or K thermocouple
